Inca Avalanche Enduro Downhill race in Ollantaytambo, Peru, off the backside of Machu Picchu, April 29th-30th, 2017

Set in the midst of the stunning Andean mountains, an ancient Inca culture and of course Machu Picchu, this  is one of the top BIKE events of the year! Far off the beaten path of typical downhill courses, the Inca Avalanche starts out at an elevation of nearly 15,000 feet above sea level and descends an outstanding course over traditional Incan roads and paths to the finish line five thousand feet below!

All centered around the legendary mountain town of Ollantaytambo

The Inca Avalanche is a mass start, enduro style downhill mountain bike race. It is not broken down into different stages, it is one continuous run from the start to the finish line – about 5900 vertical feet of descending over approximately 25-45 minutes depending on your level of shred.

Saturday April 29th – Qualifier; Best of Two runs to determine starting position for the Finals on Sunday April 30th. The two Qualifier runs will be mass start. A riders fastest finishing time will determine start position in the grid for finals(in their given category) One hundred and fifty+ riders are expected and are typically lined up in 10 rows, 15 riders wide.

Sunday April 30th – Inca Avalanche Main Event –  A one run final decides who will win the Inca Avalanche trophy. Riders will be staged on the start grid according to their finishing time within their given category. Elite men/women will be staged first, followed by Masters 30, Masters 40, Expert Rigid, Amateur Ladies, Juniors, Novice and Super Junior. Any Rider Placing In The Top 5 Overall Will Automatically Be Upgraded To Elite For The Podium Presentation.

Best of 2 runs to determine starting position for the Finals on Sunday April 30th. The two Qualifier runs will be mass start.  A rider’s fastest finishing time will determine start position in the grid for Sunday Final. Two hundred+ riders are expected and are typically lined up in 10 rows, 15 riders wide.

La mejor de 2 bajadas determinara la posiciòn de partida para la Final del Domingo 30th de Abril. Las dos mangas de clasificacion seràn con partida simultanea o masiva. El mejor tiempo de cada corredor sera tomado en cuenta para su posiciòn en la grilla de Partida de la Final del domingo. Se espera la participacion de mas de ciento cincuenta corredores que seran colocados en 10 grillas o partidas de 15 corredores cada una.

  • Riders for both Qualifying runs will be will be Staged in the starting grid according to judge’s discretion and previous results
  • Para el orden de partida en las bajadas de clasificaciòn se colocaran a los corredores en las grillas segun los resultados de carreras previas o a discrecion de los jueces.
  • Course is OPEN from top to bottom, riders must pass through the Start and Finish line in order to be scored
  • El recorrido es abierto de arriba hasta abajo, los corredores tienen que pasar las lineas de partida y llegada en orden para ser calificados.
  • Run 1 is mandatory to qualify, Run 2 is optional
  • La primera bajada es obligatoria, la segunda es opcional.
  • Riders best qualifying time will determine their grid position for Sunday’s final
  • El mejor tiempo de clasificacion de cada corridor determinara su posicion en la Grilla de Partida de la final del domingo

 

 

  • Riders unable to attend Saturdays qualifying for any reason, will be staged at the back of the grid in random order on Sunday, behind all Qualified Riders
  • Los corredores que no puedan clasificar el sabado por algun motivo, seran colocados aleatoriamente al final de la grilla de partida detras de los corredores clasificados para la Final del domingo.
  • Riders who False Start will be relegated to the back of all riders in the start grid
  • Los corredores con partida falsa o adelantada, seran relegados al final de todos los corredores
  • Cheating or Altering the Course in anyway will be grounds for disqualification – the event will be filmed and reviewed
  • Hacer trampa, cortar camino o alterar el curso de la Carrera de alguna forma, sera castigado con descalificaciòn – La Carrera sera filmada y revisada.

A one run final decides the winner. First man or woman to the finish line in Tanccac will win the Inca Avalanche trophy.

Una sola bajada decide al ganador. El primer corredor o corredora que cruce la linea de mta en Tanccac sera el ganados del trofeo del Inca Avalanche.

 

  • Riders will be staged on the start grid according to their best qualifying time from Saturday
  • Los corredores seran colocados en la partida segun su major tiempo de clasificacion del Sabado.
  • Riders unable to attend Saturdays qualifying for any reason, will be staged at the back of the grid in random order on Sunday, behind all Qualified Riders
  • Los corredores que no puedan clasificar el sabado por algun motivo, seran colocados aleatoriamente al final de la grilla de partida detras de los corredores clasificados para la Final del domingo.
  • Riders will appear on the podium in their assigned Category and will also be given an overall result
  • Los Corredores seran premiados por categoria y tambien tendran su resultado en la general
  • Elite Podium will reflect racers overall finishing place*
  • La categoria Elite sera la base para calificar los puestos en la general*
  • *Any non-Elite rider (such as Junior, Rigid, Female, etc) placing in the Top 5 Overall will be automatically upgraded to Elite for the Podium Presentation
  • *Cualquier corredor No Elite (sea Junior, Rigidas o Damas, etc. ) que llegue entre los primeros 5 de la General sera premiado en la categoria Elite

Sat April 29th  7am-8am; 5pm to 8pm, Muni Building, Ollantaytambo

Qualifier Registration closes Sat at 8am at Muni (Riders staged at judge’s discretion)

Last Minute Registration closes at 12pm at Abra Malaga (Riders staged at back of grid)
